WATERCOLOR WEDNESDAYSwatercolor class

Wednesday December 4 and December 11,  6:00 - 8:00 Instructor Steve
Wake Forest Art and Frame Shop, 139 S. White St, Wake Forest NC 27567

student watercolor

First, I'd like you to take a look at the watercolors of barns in a snowy landscape. They were painted by first time watercolor students. Just to let you know that watercolor is not "difficult" nor is "harder than oils or acrylics." In fact all you need is a cup of water, a brush, a few watercolor paints and a piece of paper. That's it. Well, a pencil might come in handy, but none of the fumes or smells that you get from acrylics and oil paints. You can paint on your kitchen table without worrying. Simple.
Our first class will look at the types of watercolor paints, brushes and papers. (The water is pretty much standard, what you get from your faucet will work fine.)
We will experiment with the materials and try different techniques. And of course, we will create a painting, after all, leaving a class with a finished painting sort of makes it worth while.
I will provide you with paint and materials for this first class. I will also discuss and give you a list of recommend paints and brushes. If you have any paints and brushes at home, please bring them along. We will take a look at what you have and how you can use it.

Our second class we will continue by student watercolorcreating another painting the easy way, playing with our new toys.
Now a side note, a few years ago Theresa and I took some swing dance lessons. What I learned from those lessons was that when you go to the second class, you probably could use some review of the previous lesson before jumping into some new steps because I had completely forgotten them. And the practice we did at home, well it probably could have been better. (The instructors didn't seem to have any trouble, but boy was I lost in that second class when they began telling us to do steps that they assumed we not only remembered but were able to do.)  So our second painting will also consist of some time reviewing what we learned, and we will do that the easy way. by painting another watercolor.
Continuing Classes  We will be continuing these classes, sometimes working on a single theme and other times going in individual directions. There might be homework.
Please take a look at the bottom of this page, there as some examples of my watercolors for you to look at. After all, you do want to know what your instructor can do, don't you.
Only $50. for both classes in December.
You can register on line with Paypal or Credit Card. Please select the option, then click the "Add to Cart" button. You can select the number of students you wish to register at the next step.

Yes! "Koi" and "Path to the Beach" in watercolors

We all painted gorgeous "Koi!"

Beautiful results from "Path to the Beach!"
The day started with Steve teaching these beginner watercolorists how to paint the beautiful colors of Koi in a Pond.

Painting fish is one thing. Painting fish underwater is another challenge! But these participants were as young as 6!

Some of the morning participants  stayed and some new students came aboard for the afternoon class of "Path to the Beach." The results speak for themselves! Several parents came and painted alongside their children and will have some great memories from today!

You've seen them so now, what's holding you back?

Paint Koi and the Beach in Watercolor! 4/28

We have two super classes coming up this Saturday April 28! Learn to paint gorgeous Koi goldfish in lovely, transparent watercolor from 10-12!  In the afternoon session from 1-3 we'll focus on painting a "Path to the Beach" in watercolor!
Watercolor is a challenging medium but many of you are repeat painters and have expressed a love for watercolor that we love to encourage!

Better yet, learn how you can carry a few watercolor art supplies with you to paint your own vacation scenes at the beach!

Steve will be teaching these classes while I (Theresa) am at the "Heart of the Artist" art show being held the same day around the corner on the grounds of the Wake Forest Seminary.
We will be painting something very similar but adding our beach fencing!

With Path to the Beach we will have some options of adding our coastal beach fencing.

And with Koi in watercolor your patterns and configuration can be your own!

Bonding with your offspring

They come to us in pairs. All ages, all abilities....husband and wife, father and daughter, mother and daughter (or son), couples looking for new horizons, sisters, cousins, neighbors, friends...the point is that when they leave two hours later, they have shared an experience together, a few hours from their lives, schedules and a new appreciation for each other and each one's abilities!
Now really, it doesn't get any better than that!

What new watercolor students did!

These are amazing paintings by beginner watercolor artists in our Art Student Academy Mountains in Watercolor!

Take a look at the detail, the transparency and the colors of these stunning mountain views.
We could not be any prouder of their efforts :-)

Steve guided the group through their assignment. An uncle brought his 3 nieces (lol-see what the 5 year old did!), a father and daughter bonded for 2 hours over watercolor, and 2 friends shared a bottle of wine at the end of class and caught up on their news.
Nope. It doesn't get any better than that. Friends don't let friends paint alone! Great job!

This collage is from 2 classes and the kids had a ball working with liquid watercolors on diffusion paper! They experimented with salt...and a close look at some of the watercolors will show the very cool dappling that results when adding sea salt to damp watercolor!

They really enjoyed the random explosion of color, and the resulting designs were varied and diverse!

Watercolor success!

It's hard to use watercolors successfully without getting them muddy or too opaque! So the 9 participants in Steve's watercolor class at the Wake Forest Art and Frame shop were delighted to create beautiful watercolors in the April 28 class!

Starting with a single image of a palm tree on the beach at sunset (or sunrise!) he showed them how to lay in the background wash before adding the tree. You would be surprised how many people want to paint the tree first then add the background! A simple tip with amazing results! Not all the participants are in this collage but the happy faces of those that are, say it all!

Next class is a unique outdoor class at our studio May 7 to paint the blooming roses! Learn what it takes to paint "plein air" :-)
